With the clarion call of his holiness Pope Francis to go to the peripheries of the world, Catechist Sisters of St. Ann took a bold step of revitalizing its consecrated life and mission with the theme chosen for the XII General Chapter, “ CSA on Fire with Love announcing the Gospel to the peripheries”. Sisters on fire with God’s love kindles life and saves humanity. Fire of God’s love in each of us burns out in Charity and overcomes all divisions. It also “ envelops our entire existence and requires a willingness to serve our neighbour”. All through the Chapter, we were reminded of the very purpose of our religious consecration – to be with God and to be sent out to preach (Mark 3:13).
The XII General Chapter reiterated that living as consecrated people is very relevant even in our present time because the world always needs holiness, prophetic witness, evangelical activity and service of the consecrated persons. We, the CSA sisters, based on our own specific vocation and charism are invited to renew our lives and mission as credible witnesses, responding to the prophetic mission in the world especially towards the poor.
Our Father Founder, Servant of God Silvio Pasquali made himself a total gift to the Lord and made his missionary journey very fruitful by being attentive and responsive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit at every moment of his life. Like our Father Founder, for us frontiers and boundaries need not be obstacles, but new challenges to be faced and new opportunities to be welcomed, and our life as religious sisters should become a loud proclamation of the Good News of Jesus Christ to all.
Truly, the time of General Chapter was a grace period for the Congregation where the life and mission of the sisters were evaluated and sought new direction for its members to live and serve with renewed dynamism. It was also a time of revitalization and re-dedication with great hope for the future which would help us to re-affirm our missionary spirit and the charisma of our religious presence and missionary service in the Church.
Dear Sisters, the directions of the XII General Chapter should lead us to a new period of fruitfulness and internal renewal that strengthens us to effectively live up to the challenges of the Gospel. And I pray that Jesus may lead us forward to touch the lives of people in the peripheries.
